Our Commitment to Sustainability

Small changes that make a big difference

At Clyne Farm, sustainability isn’t about making grand claims. As a family-run business in Swansea, South Wales, we’re committed to practical changes that reduce our environmental impact, from solar panels and EV charging to tree planting, recycling and everyday improvements across the site. We believe small changes can make a big difference.

Powering Clyne Farm with Renewable Energy

One of our latest investments has been the installation of solar panels at Clyne Farm, helping us generate renewable electricity on site and reduce our reliance on the grid.

We’ve also introduced EV charging points on both our main Clyne Farm site and at our Woodland Cottages, making it easier for guests travelling by electric vehicle to recharge during their stay. Whether you’re exploring Swansea, Mumbles or the Gower Peninsula, you can head out knowing you’ll have somewhere convenient to charge when you return.

These improvements are part of our ongoing commitment to making thoughtful, practical changes that reduce our environmental impact while helping guests enjoy a comfortable and relaxing holiday.

Every Stay Helps Grow Our Forest

We believe that lots of small actions can make a real difference over time. That’s why we’ve partnered with Ecologi to plant trees and support global reforestation projects.

Every time you book one of our self-catering cottages directly with us, we fund the planting of a tree in the Clyne Farm forest through Ecologi. It’s a simple way for us to give something back and support global reforestation.

If you’d like to get involved too, you can even add your own trees to our forest. Together, we’ve already planted thousands, and it’s wonderful to watch it continue to grow.

It’s just one part of our wider commitment to looking after the environment we all enjoy.

Tree planting with Ecologi

Ecologi is a platform for real climate action. They facilitate the funding of carbon offset projects and tree planting around the world. Their mission is to reduce 50% of global CO2 emissions by 2040 and responsibly plant billions of trees every year.

Want to help? Join us by planting your own tree (or trees!) in our Ecologi forest. It’s really easy to take part. All you need to do is:

  • Head to the Clyne Farm Centre forest here
  • Click the red “Gift More Impact” button
  • Choose to plant trees and make a small payment
  • Sit back and feel good that you’ve made a difference!

Supporting Toilet Twinning

One of the projects we’re particularly proud to support is Toilet Twinning. By twinning our toilets, we’re helping families in other parts of the world gain access to safe water and proper sanitation.

Toilet Twinning is a charity that works with communities around the world to run water and sanitation projects to enable families to build a toilet, have access to clean water, and to learn about handwashing and other hygiene principles: Toilet Twinning Website.

For each toilet we twinned, we have proudly hung a certificate in the bathroom. This will help spread the word and get even more toilets twinned!

View our dedicated charity appeal page to see how we got on.

Everyday Changes That Add Up

Not every improvement involves a major investment. Many of the changes we’ve made are simple, everyday choices that reduce waste and help us run Clyne Farm more responsibly.

Reducing waste

  • We aim to minimise the amount of paper used in the office and are working towards becoming paper free.
  • Any paper we do use is reused where possible before being recycled.
  • We refill our cottage cleaning and handwash bottles rather than throwing them away.
  • We’ve significantly reduced our use of single-use plastics across the site.
Eco friendly cleaning products

Saving energy

  • We’ve replaced disposable batteries used around the farm with rechargeable alternatives, and provide battery chargers in our cottages.
  • As bulbs reach the end of their life, we’re replacing them with energy-efficient LED lighting.
  • All holiday cottages are fitted with Hive thermostats, allowing us to avoid unnecessary heating when properties are empty while still giving guests full control during their stay.

Helping guests make a difference

  • We ask guests to close doors and windows if the heating is on to avoid wasting energy.
  • Before heading out for the day, we encourage guests to check that lights have been switched off where appropriate.

Choosing environmentally friendly products

  • We carefully select cleaning products that are kinder to the environment, use recycled packaging where possible and are cruelty-free.
  • Our Bio-D Lime & Aloe Vera handwash is hypoallergenic, vegan, pet friendly and supplied in 100% recycled BPA-free bottles.

Recycling at Clyne Farm

Recycling is something we encourage across the whole site. Wherever possible, we reduce what we use first, reuse what we can and recycle the rest. We aim to live & to run our business by the 3 Rs:

  • REDUCE – Say no to produce wrapped in excessive packaging & single use items. Buy only what you need.
  • REUSE (& Repair) – Buy products that can be reused. Before throwing items away or recycling them why not think creatively about how you could reuse them for a new purpose, or repair them?
  • RECYCLE – After you have refused, reduced, and reused there shouldn’t be much left to recycle.

How we reduce waste

Glass Milk Bottles – We wash and return our milk bottles to the milkman to reuse.
Food Waste – Any food waste we generate is composted.
Glass & Cans – We wash and recycle all glass and cans.
Plastics – We wash, squash, and recycle all items.
Paper – We squash and recycle all items. Any confidential paper is shredded and recycled.
Cardboard – We flatten and recycle all items.
Landfill Waste – Anything that can’t be reused or recycled. We try and keep this to a minimum!

How guests can help

We encourage all visitors and guests to assist us in our recycling efforts. For self-catering guests we provide green crates to transport recyclable items to our Waste & Recycling Area where we have various bins for recyclable items.
